8 Secondhand Items You Might Want to Use for Your Wedding

Beautiful Rustic Wedding at Deep South Farm

It’s National Secondhand Wardrobe Day, so it’s the perfect time to feature some great secondhand items you might want to use for your wedding. While wardrobe items such as suits and gowns are certainly solid additions to this list, there are other things that will work as well. Check out these eight suggestions:

1. Table items. Most couples rent specialty linens and décor for their reception tables because they don’t want to have to figure out what to do with tons of tablecloths, charger plates, or centerpiece votive candle holders after their wedding. If you’re having a smaller intimate wedding, though, it might make more sense to use secondhand items.
2. Cake accessories. Many couples recycle their cake toppers and/or cutting utensils so they don’t have to sit in their closets for years to come. Take advantage of that by using theirs instead of buying something new. You can even go vintage by using a cake topper saved by one of your older relatives.
3. Accessories. From shoes to jewelry to hair clips, secondhand accessories are a great way to save money and give your wedding day ensemble some real character.
4. An aisle runner. Paper aisle runners aren’t generally reusable, but cloth and carpet runners are. Personalize a secondhand aisle runner with rose petals or a gobo in your initials or a symbol significant to you.
5. Flower girl or ring bearer items. Let’s face it…flower girls and ring bearers use their baskets and pillows for a few minutes and then have no more need for them. There’s no need to get something brand new!
6. Wedding favors. This may seem like an odd one, but many couples end up with leftover generic wedding favors like bubbles, flip flops, or picture frames. You can benefit from their surplus and pick them up for a steal.
7. Bachelor/Bachelorette party decorations. Think of things like paper favor bags or boxes, hanging decorations, party hats or masks, and fun signage. Again, look for someone who had more than they needed and take advantage!
8. Lighting. Whether you need strings of market lights, LED tea light candles, or marquee signs for your reception, getting them secondhand can save you some cash. Just remember that you still need someone who can string up or set up those lights!
