How to craft a relaxed anniversary session

We’re huge fans of the resurgence of at home engagement and anniversary sessions and today’s session from photographer Nicki Metcalf and stylist Elizabeth from East Made Event Company, encourages us to draw from our lives and aesthetic by incorporating a hobby or like Allie’s studio below, her art…

From East Made Event Company: “As a professional musician and wedding planner, I have always been inspired by artwork of all kinds and the creatives who are so talented to be able to call themselves artists. I found Allie’s modern, abstract, landscape paintings through some mutual connections on Instagram and have been intrigued and impressed by her talent for some time. Allie lives with her husband, Mark, a farmer, and keeps an art studio space in Hagerstown, Maryland, right across the street from where the Maryland Symphony performs their concerts. The studio itself exudes charm and character, boasts large windows on two sides, and has dusty wood floors that have been loved for many years (and have accumulated a few paint drips to prove it!)”

“Allie and Mark recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary and we wanted to document the uniqueness of their everyday life to provide them meaningful photos to enjoy for years to come. Nicki and I had the pleasure of watching Allie paint on this particular morning, and seeing her mid-process was incredibly captivating. Allie’s concentration on her painting only wavered when Mark sweetly embraced her and started to kiss her shoulder, asking her to take a little break to join him for coffee and breakfast.

Because Allie’s dramatic paintings are statement pieces in themselves, Nicki photographed our couple as if parts of their bodies composed the details of this session: hands covered with paint and gold foil flecks, toes dirty from an aged wood floor, the soft, blonde curls of Allie’s hair, and the romantic tenderness of an authentic, real life couple in their everyday environment.

This session was especially inspirational for myself and Nicki to style and photograph as creatives and as lovers of love stories because it was a real glimpse into the unique, beautiful lives of this talented couple. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I loved styling this session!”
