Home Improvement #Fails From Everyone’s Favorite TV Dads

We have a lot to thank our dads for today. They taught us the important things, like how to put siblings in headlocks, the best time of day to ask mom for favors, and how to love golf on TV (well, he tried). But we also picked up a few lessons from other dads, a.k.a. the ones on the screen — especially in regards to home improvement mishaps.

And now that we’re adults and change lightbulbs on our own, they’re all flooding back. Ahead, a collection of slightly disastrous lessons from our fictional fathers on things to avoid. Number one? Hammering upside down never turns out well.

Arrested Development
Always
wear oven mitts. Michael, at least grab that towel on the dishwasher!

Modern Family
Read ALL of the grill instructions. Phil learned the hard way. Also, high tech cooking gadgets are often overrated.

Family Guy
Sometimes it’s better to just buy new blinds instead of battling it out with old, broken ones. The struggle is real.

Parks & Recreation
Your decorating should be a reflection of your personality and lifestyle. Maybe this print was an heirloom from a distant relative?

Louie
An NYC dad’s best asset? Good old-fashioned glue.

Home Improvement
Safety always comes first when cleaning the gutters, as Tim demonstrates here.

The Simpsons
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. But, keep your hands out of the hammer’s line of fire.

Full House
If there’s ever a bug in your room, the kitchen island can always serve as a makeshift bed. A roll of paper towels makes the perfect pillow.
