Infusing Personal Experiences into a Wedding Story

Part of the mantra of our sister company, wedding planning artisans Pearl & Godiva, always stress is infusing meaningful details into a wedding day to make it unique and original. Simply by using your own personal life and experiences, one can create a highly conceptualized event that truly embodies the personality of the couple if it were for a wedding. For our industry folks, this concept holds true even more. By creating a storyline, rather than solely a Pinterest board, one can create a tale with meaningful details and important styled aspects with relevancy and originality.

Today we’re taking a step back from the perfectly curated, Pinterest-worthy bouquet (although these Prema blooms are exactly that!) and thinking about what means something to the talented artists of today’s nostalgic editorial. Photographer Rachel Gomez used her personal memories of her great-grandparents which sets the tone for a beautiful love story…

From Rachel Gomez: “This shoot was inspired by the power of legacy and heirlooms. The bride getting ready on her wedding day, reflecting on her past as she begins her new life. She looks over family heirlooms including images of her own grandmother on her wedding day.

Weddings are about so much more than beautiful decor and details, they celebrate the first day of a marriage, and the legacy that follows. Sometimes they are just as much about who is there, as who is missing.

We picked a location with personal meaning to me. My great-great grandparents lived a few blocks away, on what is now Auraria Campus, also where I met my husband. The photos of the bride’s grandmother and great grandparents are my own family. Every detail was carefully curated to tell the story. The ring is nearly 100 years old , the handwritten love letters date back to the early 1800s, and the antique wedding shoes are from the 1920s. We wanted the styling to reflect that this was a personal moment, all in the style of painters like John Singer Sargent.”
